Frequently asked questions

How is Coaching Different From Counseling or Therapy?

When I sought out counselors/therapists for my daughter's anxiety, I encountered the same, general approach across practices. It was a one-on-one session where she unloaded her weekly worries, focused on breathing, and left seeing a couple things differently. When she'd get into the car after the session, she always seemed lighter and happier. By the next day, she'd be back to her ways of worrying, quick-to-anger, and texting me frequently to come pick her up from school. She was not learning skills or building new habits to promote lasting change! Counselors and therapists with specific training in anxiety are rare so ask questions on their approach to find the best fit.

In the Spirit of Romans 12:2, I chose to step away from secular guidelines that do not acknowledge the mental health role of our Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. In order to operate flexibly and outside the norm, I structured my business under the category of coaching and emphasize skill-building and habit training. Coaches cannot operate as counselors or therapists. They do not have to be licensed, regulated or bound by any mental health governing body. When working with a coach, you also want to ask questions on their approach and training to find the best fit.

In my case, I have mental health degrees and specialized training that exceeds most licensed counselors. Coaching offers me the flexibility to approach anxiety from the lens of science AND the enduring truth of our Almighty Creator. Each session is designed to spark a chain reaction of lightbulb moments that will illuminate a new way of thinking and responding. Scroll up and take another look at the image of the brain. All those neural connections is exactly what I'm aiming to accomplish each time we meet!

Read one of my blog articles, compare it to your life experiences, and see if you have a few lightbulb moments.

Do You Accept Health Insurance?

Insurance companies typically require you to be identified and labeled with a mental health diagnosis to cover costs, and they set limitations on how trained professionals operate. Coaches cannot diagnose or provide treatment for mental health disorders thus insurance benefits don't apply.

I'm not a fan of anxiety labels as it can plant a seed that "I'll always be an anxious person." It's important that you believe in your ability to release from anxiety's tight grip. You will be taught how to become your own anxiety expert and there is no insurance code for that service.

How Much Are Sessions? What Type of Sessions Do You Offer?

Pricing is competitive at $65 for a 60-minute session and $100 for a 90-minute session.

Think of me in the same way as a private coach you've hired for skill-building in a sport.  We're going to lay a foundation of strategic thinking, build your technique, and troubleshoot your application. Once your refined skills have transferred to stronger performance in life, step away from private coaching and enjoy using the skills you honed. When you're ready to unlock another level, come back to coaching and further enhance your training.

Do you enjoy learning in groups?

Host a group in your home, school, church, workplace, book club, etc. where the fee can be split among those participating! These sessions can even be customized to your groups specific needs!

From my experience, people prone to anxiety often gravitate to each other, so why not enjoy skill-building together! My mom friends and I spoke openly with each other about our worries, and I WISH someone trained in anxiety would have shared their expertise with us!

Do You Work One-on-One with Minors?

Anxiety affects the whole family and needs a family solution. Parents get anxious when their children are anxious, children get anxious when their parents are anxious! Heck, I've even seen our dog get anxious when we're anxious! It's a generational pattern that doesn't improve until you give the family a playbook with new language designed to shrink the anxiety overtaking their lives. All sessions require one parent to learn alongside their child, and we welcome the whole family to attend. With older teens, we are open to the first half of the session being with the teenager, and the parent joining us for the last half of the session.

Do You Work with Adults?

Yes! Our brains are designed to learn new concepts and build new habits throughout our lives, it's called neuroplasticity! Join me and unlock freedom from your worry traps!

How Do I Get Started?

Need More Information?

Book a free 15 minute consultation at the bottom of the Home page.

What Happens in the First Session?

Our first session will equip you with a scientific understanding of anxiety and you will start learning how to Externalize this Internalizing Disorder. The first two sessions go by quickly and clients almost always want to continue learning past the 60 minute mark, so I recommend planning for a 90 minute session. The information is captivating and makes you want to stay and soak it all in.

What's After the First Two-Three Sessions?

You will have a powerful set of tools to experiment with on your own. Take a few weeks or a month to apply them to your life. Or, keep coming weekly until you've reached Expert Level! Every learner is different and we operate flexibly to meet you where you need to be met. 60 minute sessions work best once you've learned how to apply the foundational concepts to your life.
